In episode four of the Roots and Branches: JJC Alumni Podcast, host Jen Davis welcomes JJC alumni Damon Zunich and Michelle Xydakis to discuss their journeys and entrepreneurial ventures in the wine industry. Damon, co-owner of Bishop's Hill Winery in Joliet, Illinois, and Michelle, owner of Montage Wine Bar and Spirits in Morris, Illinois, share their unique paths from their time at Joliet Junior College to becoming successful business owners. Jen Davis currently serves as the Director of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations at Joliet Junior College. A former English instructor, she has spent more than two decades in higher education, supporting students at various stages of their academic and professional journeys. In her leadership role, Jen oversees initiatives that strengthen connections between JJC and its alumni, fostering engagement and building lasting relationships. Her responsibilities include strategic planning for alumni outreach, organizing small and large-scale events, managing annual giving campaigns, and collaborating across departments to create meaningful opportunities for alumni involvement.

Amanda Quinn serves as the Executive Director of the Joliet Junior College Foundation and Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, a role she assumed in January 2026. Throughout her career at JJC, she has held several key positions including Grant Writer, Annual Giving and Alumni Relations Manager, and Director of Institutional Advancement, giving her a deep understanding of the college’s philanthropic priorities and partnerships. With more than 15 years of experience in fundraising, communications, and marketing, Amanda leads philanthropic engagement strategies that advance student success. Her strategic vision, strong donor relationships, and commitment to JJC’s mission continue to drive the college’s growth and impact.

Damon Zdunich is a lifelong resident of Joliet, Illinois, with a strong commitment to both his community and service. He earned his Associate's Degree from Joliet Junior College in 1980 and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Northern Illinois University in 1982. After joining the U.S. Navy, he served with distinction for 28 years, both active and in the reserves, retiring as a Commander. Professionally, Damon works as an accountant with the Gelber Group for the last 24 years, gaining a wealth of experience in the financial sector. In addition to his career, he is the proud owner of Bishops Hill Winery, blending his passion for local business with a love of winemaking. An active community leader, Damon serves as a Board Member for the Joliet Regional Port District and as Vice President of the Croatian Cultural Club. He is a former Board Member of St. Mary Nativity Grade School and remains deeply involved in his faith as a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Joliet. His dedication to his community and country is evident in both his professional accomplishments and his volunteer efforts.

With a passion for helping people connect and enjoy life’s special moments, Michelle has built a business that reflects her commitment to excellence and service. Though Michelle never anticipated entering the food and beverage industry, life's unexpected journey led her to discover a true love for it—and she wouldn't change a thing. Outside of business, Michelle is a devoted wife and a mother to two wonderful children, aged 17 and 18, balancing family life with the demands of entrepreneurship. Through it all, Michelle continues to embrace life's twists and turns with a positive attitude and an unwavering dedication to creating lasting memories for others.
